it wasn’t meant to be.

I wanted to start off by saying that we tried. We really wanted to be earth-friendly when it came to our lawn. And, we even thought the push-reel mower was fun the first time.

We had gone too long between mowings, and some of our weeds that we call "grass" grew to be too tall. As I took my eco-friendly mower over the lawn, the weeds would lie down and then pop back up after I walked by. Our yard looked disgusting, so we borrowed Ryan’s parent’s mower to combat the weeds.

We thought it would be a one time only thing. But, when we realized we could mow the front and back lawn in less time than it took with our reel mower, for the front yard- it was hard to want to use our reel mower. While not using gas and putting pollutants into the air, the reel mower took a lot of our time, which is valuable too (right?)

We looked online, and were in luck with the timing of Memorial Day sales. We scored a great mower- and decided we would wait to open it, try it out with the reel mower a few more times then, and then open it if we couldn’t bear it anymore.

But when it came time to mow the lawn this week, guess what we opened. Do we feel bad? Kinda. But the ease of mowing is too great to pass up. At least we tried, right?

The icing on the cake?  Our neighbor said our "yard was looking great"- so clearly, that's all that matters!

  1. Don't worry about it... you tried. And you can't do everything perfect! We have pretty much stopped composting because we can't get the pile to actually turn into compost. I feel bad about it. But hopefully we can start feeding that stuff to the chickens soon!
