Our tree has been accessorized

Once Ryan got home from work, we began today's festivities of completing the tree decorations.  Our tree can be described as green and aqua with bits of memories.  That is, we have colored balls, green apples and silver pinecones all over the tree.  Then, our ornaments that we have picked up from various locations are intermixed.

Ryan had to tell me that I was ruining the fun by dictating where a better location for each ornament would be.  So I bit my tongue and let the random placement pursue.

I think it turned out quite nicely.

Here are some of our favorite ornaments:

We also bought a pickle ornament, which I was so so so excited about.

There is a "german pickle legend".

The pickle ornament was considered a very special tree decoration by many families in Germany. There, the fir tree was traditionally decorated on Christmas Eve. For good luck, the pickle always was the last ornament to be hung on the tree with mother and father hiding it in the green boughs among the other ornaments. When the children were allowed to view the splendor of the decorated tree on Christmas morning they would gleefully begin searching for the pickle ornament. They knew that whoever found that special ornament first, would receive an extra little gift left by St. Nicholas for the most eager child.

Now, since Ryan and I put up the pickle, there is no surprise.  But- maybe a fun thing to do with our kids someday.

Lastly, I put up a few decorations:

This little guy was only $3 at Target.

Cool reindeer.
